Play Is the Gift

Play Is the Gift

One thing I’ve always loved about our time living in the Netherlands (from 1996-2001) and the Dutch culture is this:
They know how to celebrate.
Because in their culture, you bring the cake. You throw the party. And yes, you thank your mom for doing the hard work of birthing you into the world.

The main idea is that you celebrate by giving.

That tradition stuck with me. Because in Holland, birthdays aren’t just about getting older,  they’re about giving back.
And because it’s my birthday, I want to keep that tradition going.
Here’s what I’m giving you:
150 Ways to Play More – a playful (and wildly practical) guide to feeling more like you again.
🎧 The first chapter of my book in audio format– because sometimes, hearing someone say the words is exactly what we need.
Why these? Because I want you to feel strong. Capable. And maybe even a little more you-shaped in this big, chaotic world.
Oh, and one more thing that feels rare and magical: this year, my mom and I are celebrating a “palindrome birthday.” I’m turning 59. She’s turning 95. Same numbers, mirrored. It feels like a cosmic wink.

A reminder that the way we care for ourselves today echoes forward…sometimes across generations.

So take the gifts. Use them. Let them meet you where you are.
And maybe… I’ll see you at the playground.
With gratitude and birthday joy,
Coach Jan xo
