RED January Canada

By Published On: October 14th, 2023

A few years ago, I started to follow a wellness movement out of the UK called RED January, run by a woman named Hannah Beecham who, in 2016, was concerned about her mom’s mental and physical health in the dreary months of January.

Fast forward to today, RED January is a free annual public health campaign.

It has raised over $5 million and inspired hundreds of thousands to embrace regular physical activity with others.

RED stands for “Rise Every Day.”

I was so inspired by what Hannah has done that I asked her if she’d consider expanding to Canada.

And, over the past few months, Hannah and I have worked together to find a way to do just that.

I’m thrilled to announce that RED January is coming to Canada this winter!

More than a New Year’s Resolution, RED January Canada is for all abilities and is the first-of-its-kind month-long winter campaign for your physical, mental and social well-being.

From coast to coast, participating individuals, groups and corporations will be motivated and guided in being physically active – their way – every day.

The goal is to inspire REAL habit change, not just a fleeting New Year’s resolution!

Additionally, participants can make their commitment count by raising funds and awareness for our official charitable partner, The GenWell Project, led by my good friend Pete Bombaci.

They do fantastic work to support human connection projects in local communities year-round. And yes, there is a genuine need.

Research from 2021 suggests that over 50% of all Canadians felt lonely regularly. Supporting data shows that 64% of Canadians are inactive in the winter versus 49% in the summer.

Join me in becoming part of Canada’s new annual public health movement.
