The power of showing up

The power of showing up

The power of showing up

Ah, the new year!

Who didn’t have a conversation about making a change in their lives over the holidays?

Yeah, me either:)

Why does the collective world shine the light so brightly at the start of the new year to “clean the slate” instead of looking at every day as an opportunity to wake up and live fully?

On the one hand, the push for “New Year New You” is driven by consumer behaviour for those who “flock to health, finance and learning companies to reach their goals. These firms are well aware – and many are seizing the moment to profit.”*

On the other hand, when it comes to change, human behaviour is often driven by the all-or-nothing mindset that comes with short-sighted, unattainable goals.

You are all in for a while, and then life gets in the way.

But what if we weren’t meant to fail?

What if we looked at making change as an experiment?

Instead of January being the one time in the year that you choose to do something differently, why not look at what you could do, just a little bit better/differently each day?

  • Start small: even one minute of something is better than nothing
  • Focus on consistency: be okay with not being perfect
  • Keep going: once you’ve mastered that one thing, take it to the next level or stack on something new!

And if you need to pick something to motivate you to get more active while having fun, why not start with RED January?

Move your way daily with a friend, neighbour, coworker or classmate and make real change, not New Year resolutions.

There is power in showing up consistently for daily physical activity in a way that works for you.

Small changes add to sustainable behaviours you can feel great about all year.

RED January Canada has just begun; there is still time to join.

It’ll be one of the most important moves you make!
