Why The Basics Work. Doing These Simple Things Half The Time Lead To Real Results

A woman I coach recently asked me, “Janet, what’s the secret to staying healthy as I age?”
She’s not alone in having this question!
With the advancement of technology and AI, many health headlines mention biohackers — individuals who spend millions on extreme health practices in an attempt to reverse the aging process, thereby optimizing their “lifespan” and “healthspan.”

“Do I need to be doing cold plunges and tracking my mitochondria now?” my client asked, half-laughing.

Here’s what I told her: No. You don’t need perfection. You need consistency and joy.
My colleagues at Precision Nutrition recently published an article that supports the idea of simple wellness strategies, “The True Cost of “Optimal” Health: Want to live as long and healthy as possible? Here’s what it really takes.”
The bottom line: “Enjoying your life isn’t separate from good health; it’s part of it.”

And the truth? The basics work.

Good health is as simple as this: move your body. Eat mostly real food. Sleep. Laugh. Connect. Repeat.

These are the foundations, and they’re not as complicated as we’ve been led to believe.

We’ve been conditioned to believe that health is about extremes. All or nothing. Green juice or bust. ChatGPT over intuition and basic biological needs.

However, research shows that incorporating these simple practices even half the time leads to real results.

That’s freeing, isn’t it?
So this week, your invitation is to ditch the “perfect plan” and just play.
Walk a little more and discover the places to play in your neighbourhood.
Dance in your kitchen.
Eat a veggie you actually like.
Laugh with someone you love.
Take five deep breaths.

Because when it comes to health and longevity, you don’t need another hack—just a habit that brings you joy.

Let’s stop treating health like a grind and start treating it like a gift.
The quality of our days is what gives our lives joy and meaning.
Play is the access point to this abundance. And it’s available right now. Not when your wearable hits the “right” zone.
Not when your schedule clears.

Now.

💥 What will you do this week to move because it feels good—not because you “should”?
Hit reply and tell me. I’d love to cheer you on.
Play on!
